About Corwin Butterworth:

Corwin began his professional career as a painter, but, in 1998, decided to go into woodworking.  His career as a woodworker began upon completion of a two-week continuing education class at the Rhode Island School of Design when the teacher, Barry Sumrall, asked him to work in his cabinet-making shop. That began seven years of on-again/off-again work on various projects with Mr. Sumrall. In that span, he also worked for furniture designer Philip Beauchemin and boatmaker Henry Elliot.

In 1999-2000, he honed his craft at at the Center for Furniture and Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine.  There he studied with such furniture luminaries as Christian Becksvoort, Peter Korn, John McAlevey and British furniture-maker Andrew Garten.  Since then, he's been working in his shop, commissioned to make an array of custom designed, hardwood furniture.

Corwin's paintings and furniture are on view at the gallery through March 31, 2009.
